The Maple Leafs continued their winning ways on Friday, beating the New York Rangers 6-3. This is now their third win in a row. The win also marked the seventh on the road under Keefe.

The Big Three

Nylander, Marner and Matthews finished the game as the three stars after a very impressive outing. Nylander had three points while scoring twice, ending his eight game goalless drought. Marner also scored twice continuing his six game point streak, making it 10 points during that time. Matthews also pitched in with two assist, bringing his season total to 38 points in 36 games.

The Leafs have had their struggles when it comes to the third period. However, they had a very rare hot start to the third on Friday. Nylander and Marner scored less than a minute apart to start the third, sealing the win for Toronto.

Bottom Six Continue To Rock

On a night where the Leafs top core shinned bright, the bottom six continued their impressive run. Keefe has been able to bring out the best of his line-up night in and night out. Mikheyev and Engvall scored once again while Kerfoot and Kapanen each recorded an assist.

With the goal on Friday, Mikheyev has now scored in three straight. He continues to impress game after game. Under Keefe, Mikheyev looks a lot more comfortable on the ice and has become a very big piece during the penalty-kill.

Defense Continue To Impress

Andersen had a very rare off night against New York, but the defense was there to bail him out. Even with the Rangers having two successful comebacks during the game, the D-men on the Leafs were able to shut them down. Toronto held New York to only 22 shots.

The penalty kill for the Leafs was on point last night. They were able to shut down the Rangers on all three power-play opportunities. What was more impressive was that these power-plays came at times during the game where momentum was high for the Rangers. If they had scored on any of those chances, it could have been a very different result.

The Leafs will look to keep their momentum going as they host Detroit on Saturday night. They will have their work cut out for them as Hutchinson will get the start.
