Although Toronto FC lost to the Seattle Sounders in the 2019 MLS Cup Finals, there’s no reason to do anything crazy roster-wise. So far in the offseason, Toronto FC hasn’t made a lot of moves. Let’s take a look at what they’ve done so far.

1. The Reds Re-Sign Bradley

It almost seemed inevitable that Michael Bradley would re-sign with Toronto FC. He loves the city and the team. This was evident when in December of 2019, he took a huge pay cut to play for the reds once again. He went from being a  designated player to a TAM player. This means that Toronto FC is now able to sign a 3rd designated player to the roster. Beyond that, Michael Bradley brings much-needed leadership to the group.  When Bradley has been the Red’s captain, the results have spoken for themselves. Bradley is a leader on and off the field. He constantly directs his teammates on where to be positioned and when members of the squad look frustrated he calms them down. Bradley is a core member of this squad and TFC were right to re-sign him quickly.

2. Toronto FC Keeps Key Players

Sometimes, the best move to make is none at all. This has been the story for Toronto FC so far this offseason. When teams don’t win a championship, they tend to overreact and make drastic moves in the offseason. However, it’s good that they aren’t. A lot of Toronto FC’s core players such as Alejandro Pozuelo, Michael Bradley, and Jozy Altidore are essential to keep. Not only does that mean stability, but it also means that Toronto FC’s team chemistry stays at the top level. Teams that have more chemistry tend to get better results because they know each other’s habits. It’s also easier to make better plays. In any case, maintaining stability has helped the Reds this offseason.

These good offseason moves, rather lack thereof, will help Toronto FC contend for the MLS cup. Acquiring one more designated player will most certainly lead to TFC being the favorite not just to win the MLS Cup, but the supporters shield as well. Who will that 3rd DP be? We just have to wait and find out.
